Work experience at Budmouth Academy
I am Clair Oetegenn, careers and guidance coordinator at Budmouth Academy and am contacting local business regarding work experience for some of our Year 10 students.
We would like to give students a chance to experience the workplace, and with that in mind I wondered if know of any business or company that would like to host one or more students for a week at the end of June or beginning of July.
We are also looking into some groups of students having visits to workplaces, so if you know of business who would like to accommodate this, please let me know.
It would be great if you could to be part of the work experience programme at Budmouth Academy.
You may find the health and safety information below useful, more can be found on our website:
Under health and safety law, work experience students are your employees. You treat them no differently to other young people you employ. Your existing employers’ liability insurance policy will cover work placements provided your insurer is a member of the Association of British Insurers, or Lloyds, so there is no need for you to obtain any additional employer’s liability insurance if you take on work experience students. The ABI website confirms this.
- Simply use your existing arrangements for assessments and management of risks to young people
- if you have fewer than five employees you are not required to have a written risk assessment
- if you do not currently employ a young person, have not done so in the last few years or are taking on a work experience student for the first time, or one with particular needs, review your risk assessment before they start.
Parents/Carers will complete and sign a letter of understanding, students will have briefing on health and safety and what will be expected of them and we will also give you a letter of understanding to sign and return to us before the work experience starts.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind Regards
Clair Oetegenn
