Weymouth College 106 – Student Presentation 2022 – a real celebration of achievement
On Wednesday 13th July, 106 – the Weymouth College town centre campus – was pleased to welcome students and their families and friends to a celebration of achievement at Weymouth Town Council Offices. This year’s celebration was 106’s first in-person event in recent years – making the event particularly special.
106 Centre Manager – Julie Ellis – and her staff were joined by Weymouth College Assistant Principal Rob Cole who was pleased to present certificates in English, maths and ICT to this year’s cohort.
Students shared experiences and stories – all showcasing that it is never too late to upskill, learn new skills or work towards a career change.
One student – Gaynor Wells – shared her inspirational story which very much shows what successes can be achieved when you return to learning…
Gaynor first visited 106 in 2016 and with a little bit of encouragement, enrolled and successfully completed a Level 2 maths course. This was followed by GCSEs in English and maths and the Access course at the main college site. Gaynor has now completed a degree course at King’s College London – one of the prestigious Russell group – graduating with a first class Honours degree.
In June Gaynor was awarded the 2022 Alumni award at the Weymouth College Student Awards 2022 for her outstanding achievements.
… a real success story – well done Gaynor.
Centre Manager Julie Ellis said:
“Many thanks and congratulations to all the students who were able to join us for the celebration – each story is inspirational and a testament to what you can achieve. I would also like to say a particular thank you to all the staff at 106 who have once again worked so hard to support the students through 2021 and 2022”
