Historic charity looking for two new trustees
Local Charity Weymouth Town Charities have two vacancies for trustees due to the retirement of two long standing trustees and would like to hear from individuals who would be interested in being considered.
We would particularly like to hear from anyone with experience in property management and maintenance, although all applicants are welcome.
The board of trustees manages charitable funds dating back to 1666. This is split into two groups of charities – The Sir Samuel Mico Charities which provide scholarships, educational and development grants to around 100 young people under 25 years of age each year, and The Sir Henry Edwards Charities which provide low cost housing to elderly people who cannot afford to own or rent a property.
The trustee position is honorary and does not attract any remuneration. Trustees need to reside, or have occupation or employment in, or special knowledge of Weymouth and Portland.
Gary Hepburn Chairman of trustees said:” being a trustee of Weymouth Town Charities can be very rewarding as we are able to support young people in education or personal development at one end of the spectrum and the older people of Weymouth with low cost housing at the other end. Its a real privilege being able to make a difference to local people and continuing the legacy of two significant local benefactors Sir Samuel Mico and Sir Henry Edwards and like many trustees before us managing assets and funds that go back over 350 year and have benefitted many thousands of local people over that time.”
