Chamber reaches out to new PM
Dorset Chamber has urged new Prime Minister Boris Johnson to put business at the heart of his new Government.
Chief executive Ian Girling has written to the Tory leader offering him his congratulations and inviting him to meet business leaders in the county.
Dorset Chamber, the county’s voice of business, has more than 700 members employing nearly 37,000 people.
Mr Johnson sparked controversy in June 2018 after a reported four-letter outburst about business when questioned about concerns over Brexit.
Ian said: “My congratulations go to Boris Johnson on his victory.
“We expect to see business friendly policies put in place to support growth and recognition of the valuable contribution business makes to the economy and society.
“We have seen a slowdown at a national level so hopefully the new Government will be able to kickstart the economy.
“I have written to the new Prime Minister inviting him to visit the business community in Dorset to help him understand the concerns of business first hand.”
Dorset Chamber is the only chamber in Dorset accredited to the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).
As the county’s leading business support organisation, it has been helping firms concerned about Brexit.
Ian said: “The BCC has been campaigning relentlessly for an orderly Brexit and at a local level we are offering support.
“Now more than ever business needs stability and clarity over Brexit, and that must come from our new Prime Minister.”
He added: “It has been a difficult time and Dorset firms have weathered the storm well, but we will carry on lobbying and representing them through the BCC to make sure their voice is heard.”
Dorset Chamber, celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, has a comprehensive portfolio of Brexit information on its website.
It has also been holding Brexit focused events and workshops, including advice for exporters and importers.
It recently launched its new Dorset Chamber Life Skills fund to help young people in care or recently out of care in to the world of work.
